54 year old Dick came to the clinic complaining about his knee pain. Dick had a boat accident when he was 12. After his doctor operated on his hip, he also put three screws on his hip to hold his femor bone together. Although he doesn't have problems with it, his knee buckles occasionally feeling tender and weak as he ages, he joked.
First we needed to determine which part of his knee was tender or hurt. There are five positions we checked: 1) on top of knee; 2) on medial side of the knee; 3) on lateral side of the knee; 4) on medial side below the patella; 5) on lateral side below the patella. Each area presents a different diagnosis and treatment. In Dick's case, it was on the lateral side of his knee. A set of needling points were located on his arm and leg on the side of his problem knee. Then needles went in to relieve the tenderness.
Dick was treated with acupuncture and he felt immediate relief. When he walked a long distance, his planta faciatis would act up, then he would drop by the clinic and have his acupuncture treatment. Every now and then when he felt his knee or his hip was weaker, he would call and make an appointment for a check up. Every time he left acupuncture treatment table, he always felt much better and relieved. He had been a long term client of our clinic since his treatment.
