Give Your Body a Break – From Food
by Raymond Francis

dragon

A strategy to not to be fat again is to take a rest completely from eating – to fast. The human body was designed to deal with periods of not eating at all. Our hunter-gatherer ancestors fasted because food was not always available. Fasting, or giving the body a rest from food, is one of the oldest and most effective healing methods. We fast every night, which is why we call the first meal of the day "breakfast". Time without food moving through the digestive system is critical to our health. Because our cells do not have to devote energy to the hard work of digestion, they can tap into energy needed for detoxification, maintenance, and healing. Giving your body additional periods of fasting besides overnight is a healthy habit to add to your lifestyle. Time without food means fewer calories, which supports weight loss, and this resting period allows for many healthful body functions that support weight loss and weight maintenance.

Whether you begin by fasting through just one meal a day, two meals a day, one day a week, or three days a month, your body will have extra time to cleanse and detoxify. Several studies suggest that fasting extends longevity.

My Take on Fasting
I am currently fasting for a week right now under supervision of a TCM practitioner, who put acupuncture needles in me for an hour every day. I eat only three dried dates (jujube fruits), one for each meal, and plenty of honeyed water. I did it because my body needs some cleansing to do. Losing weight serves as a side benefit. I am not a big fan of fasting but I did another one week fasting before about ten years ago under supervision of a Dao master and have felt comfortable about the concept. This time was due to my feeling rusted, unhealthy, and aging. The doctor told me that I should not have a pulse so weak that it reflected a much older person. My vanity took over and I decided to plunge. The doctor's fame was a big contributor to my decision. When you trust a physician, you tend to have more spontaneous courage. I feel lighter, my neck is improving, and I don't feel tired at all after a busy day. The first three days was a little challenging because my habit makes me think of hunger. But it was only a few fleeting moments. I remembered that I had similar temptations during my last fasting. It turned out much easier than I expected, too. Days go by quickly. The key, I think, is to stay busy and not to stay at home or near the kitchen. I am very sure that I will be losing at least ten pounds and just ready for the wedding of my best friend's daughter in two weeks.
EYLShying away from fasting is a modern phenomenum. We are not used to the concept of not eating. It will take seeing other people's going through it with better complexion and health afterwards to convince them to do it themselves. Fasting is not just not eating. I was asked to do a minimum of 36 very simple deep breathing exercises four times a day to help my energy move. See the after_me and you may want to try it yourself!

Keep up with your good work in health!
